Groningen

Groningen is a lively university city of about 200,000 in the northern Netherlands, ca. two and a half hours northeast of Amsterdam or northwest of Bremen. In addition to its medieval city center and the University of Groningen -- a top-100-listed research-university of over 30,000 students established in 1614 -- Groningen is also known for its music and arts festivals, its easy access to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Waddenzee, and its ubiquitous bicycles -- two-thirds of all trips in the city occur by bicycle.
